Understanding Your Results

What is ovulation?

Ovulation is when a mature egg is released from the ovary and becomes available for fertilization. This typically happens about 14 days before your next period starts.

When am I most fertile?

Your fertile window includes the 5 days before ovulation and the day of ovulation itself. Sperm can survive in the reproductive tract for up to 5 days, while the egg survives for about 12-24 hours after ovulation.

How accurate is this calculator?

This calculator provides estimates based on typical ovulation patterns. It assumes you ovulate 14 days before your period. However, ovulation timing can vary between individuals and even between cycles for the same person.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know when I'm ovulating?

Signs of ovulation include changes in cervical mucus (becomes clear and stretchy like egg whites), a slight increase in basal body temperature, mild pelvic pain or twinges on one side, increased libido, and breast tenderness. Ovulation predictor kits (OPKs) detect the LH surge that happens 24-36 hours before ovulation, providing the most accurate prediction.

Can I get pregnant if I have irregular periods?

Yes, but predicting ovulation becomes more challenging with irregular cycles. If your cycle length varies significantly from month to month, this calculator may be less accurate. Consider tracking ovulation signs, using OPKs, or consulting with a healthcare provider for guidance. Conditions like PCOS can cause irregular ovulation and may benefit from medical treatment.

What's the best time to have intercourse for conception?

The highest probability of conception occurs when intercourse happens 1-2 days before ovulation. However, having intercourse every 1-2 days throughout your fertile window maximizes your chances. You don't need to time it exactly to the hour - sperm can survive for several days waiting for the egg to be released.
